Sitting Up

Yesterday, I walked into Ada’s room and found her sitting up in her crib. Since she was 6 months old she has been able to sit on her own, if someone sat her up. Actually sitting up herself is new. I watched her move from sitting, to army crawling, and back to sitting. It was great.

Singing and other joyful noise

My little girl is a chatter box. She talks for hours on end. She loves to make noise and then change the way it sounds, by moving her body, putting her hand over her mouth, or strumming her lip with her finger. She isn’t particularly good at the last two, but is getting there. Lately she loves to sing. She sings to herself as she plays. She repeats songs if you sing them too her. At a wedding we went to she sung to the trumpet after it went quiet. She also has words. She can say Mama, Dada, baby, dog (Dot) and cat(tat).

Moving Forward

We have forward movement. It happened Tuesday at the Science Center. Finn had something Ada wanted. She flapped, she pushed, she grunted, she pulled, and suddenly she moved forward. It was not graceful– the cross between an army crawl and an inchworm. She has been practicing.

Busy baby

t has been a busy and exciting month. We went fruit picking several times with the Glari, swam in the baby pool, but the most exciting part of August was our trip to Maine.

The car ride up was long, but Ada was a trooper, only crying in CT, and really wouldn’t you? She played with her cousin Tatum, swam in the lake, rode in the boat and splashed in the water table. We went to Freeport and Portland for the day. We shopped and hung out with Simon and Kara. The ride home was amazingly short, and she slept the entire time.

Awake

It is 3:35 AM, and I have been up with the baby for 2 hours. The sleep thing is sporadic for us. Last night she slept 9 hrs. I need to implement a routine soon. I was hoping one would come naturally, but alas it has not.

Since I am awake I will use the time to catch up.

Ada likes the way her blocks taste. Her mama and dad enjoy playing with them.

“YOU have a baby, in a bar”, Damn Reese Witherspoon.

Yes, we have a baby, in a bar. I promise we are not bad parents, we both are just very social, we crave conversation with other people. It is a choice we make for our family, and it works for us.

Ada has always been on her best behavior when we go out. She enjoys watching and talking to people, and when she is tired she sleeps.

Yesterday, Ada and I took the circulator, up to the main branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library. The children’s room is beautiful. Ada really liked the pond, and the books.

Ada is now asleep. I am going to finish my tea. Enjoy the silence of the pre-dawn night and then go to sleep.
